Killzone 1 & 2 : Bring on the fall of the Helghast Empire!

Killzone is a first-person shooter game developed exclusively for the PlayStation 2 game console. The game has been created by Netherlands-based Guerrilla Games and launched in 2004 in North America. Killzone: Liberation, the first sequel was released on the PlayStation Portable and Killzone 2 is presently being developed for the PlayStation 3.

The game is set in a period of space colonization; where the war-resurgent Helghast Empire has launched a war against the outer ISA colony planet Vekta. Vekta's orbital Strategic Defense (SD) platforms fail in the initial attack, enabling the Helghast to its vast army of soldiers onto the surface. This poses great difficulty for the outnumbered ISA forces.

In the game, the player takes control of ISA squad leader Jan Templar, attempting to defeat the Helghast Empire. Templar and his squad are deployed to the base for reassignment, and are immediately sent in search of the ISA operative Hakha and the key which he possesses. The player also takes control of numerous other characters, such as a special operations agent Luger, a heavy weapons specialist sergeant Rico Velasquez and Hakha, a half-Helghast, half-Human spy.

Killzone has received different kinds of reviews from magazines and websites. Reviewers have cited numerous technical problems with Killzone such as inconsistent and occasional nonexistent AI, occasional bugs which lead to random game crashes, frame-rate issues, several disturbing graphical glitches, repetition of the same voices, short draw distance as well as an awkward control system. The game is equipped with online capabilities and up to 16 players can take part in a game. The game features 8 maps which are largely based on maps from the Single Player Campaign.
